Last Minute Pointers For:
The Recruitment Chairman and Committee
- All members should wear their Deke pin.
- Encourage local alumni to attend the recruitment function.
- Give priority consideration to all alumni recommendations and legacies.
- Know your chapter’s strengths (conduct a rush seminar).
- Make sure the accommodations are clean and the function is well planned.
- Always provide transportation. This guarantees attendance and extends excellent “PR.”
- Rush whole dorm floors when possible…men go where their friends go.
- Convert rushee to a first name basis as soon as possible.
- Make sure rushees meet other rushees in whom you are interested.
- When possible, encourage your top rushees to suggest their friends as potential rushees.
- Encourage each rushee to talk about himself. It is a simple way to find out all there is to know.
- Don’t criticize other fraternities or sororities. Degrading comments will come back to haunt you.
- Recruitment is simply a process of making new friends. Treat each rushee as a potential friend.
- Remember, it takes only a few seconds to make a good impression, but it takes years to correct a poor one!
The Member
- Always use a firm handshake and concentrate on the sound of the Rushee’s name. Look the man in the eye.
- Be enthusiastic at all times (enthusiasm is contagious).
- Speak truthfully and be as frank as possible in all conversations.
- Treat all guests equally.
- Point out the accomplishments of the other brothers whenever you get the chance.
- Recognize a rushee on campus by his first name.
- Create a relaxed atmosphere and make a rushee feel he is one of the group and not just a guest. He will feel like he belongs.
- Be proud of your school, your brothers, and Delta Kappa Epsilon.
- Always be neat and well-groomed.
- Be a good listener, don’t dominate the conversation.
- Encourage every rushee to pledge regardless of the fraternity. If you openly rush the Greek System, rushees will be impressed and you will get your share of pledges.
