Delta Kappa Epsilon - Delta Psi

September 7th kicked off Men's Formal Recruitment at Dunn Meadow at Indiana University. The men of Delta Psi had a table setup displaying information on Deke as well as engaging in potential members who were interested in Rush. VP Membership Bert Herring began a great rush program with events such as Monday Night Football and Poker night where we were able to get to know potential new members on a personal level and they were able to get the feel for what it is like to be a Deke at Indiana University. In the end, we ended up with eleven promising pledges that are currently two weeks into their pledgeship. This is great for Delta Psi in terms of number of quality guys and the future of the chapter.

Our goals for the Lion Trophy application this year are grand. Like every year, we take pride in our community service involvement around IU and the greater Bloomington area. This year will be no different. Only being two months into the school year, we are already planning community service events including being involved with Habitat for Humanity, Rake-a-thon in the fall, and various "Safe" Halloween events that support local youth in the community. Along with community service, our goal is to reach out to young alumni base who have moved throughout the country. This is will be our first year that we will have a completed chapter alumni database, including a full family tree that is being constantly updated. Regarding overall membership improvement, we continue to work with our members who are struggling academically by providing adequate study hours at libraries around campus where they are required to attend. This will continue to help with our overall GPA which above average according to Indiana University Greek standards.

In mentioning community service specifically, we once again plan on doing our 200 hour day. We hold this event every spring and always proves to be very successful among chapter members, the university, and alumni who attend. Along with this event, we will be setting up our 2nd annual relief trip to New Orleans. Last year, a group of 12 Deke men traveled to Louisiana and aided residents in cleaning and restoring houses and property. This was a very successful trip and we were also able to connect with Zeta Zeta and Tau Lambda chapters as well as former Delta Psi alumnus and chapter founder who was living in New Orleans at the time.

As for currently campus events that are coming up in the near future, homecoming is right around the corner at Indiana University and Delta Psi is excited to be a part of the tradition. This year we plan on wearing letters and participating in the Homecoming Parade that runs through campus. Also the chapter will attend a campus wide pep rally followed by a chapter tailgate and attendance to the football game. These events are great for chapter moral and also allow us to continue to get our name out on campus in being involved in different causes.
