Last Minute Pointers For:
The
Recruitment Chairman and Committee
1) All members should wear their
Deke pin.
2) Encourage local alumni to attend the recruitment function.
3) Give priority consideration to all alumni recommendations and legacies.
4) Know your chapter’s strengths (conduct a rush seminar).
5) Make sure the accommodations are clean and the function is well planned.
6) Always provide transportation. This guarantees attendance and extends excellent
“PR.”
7) Rush whole dorm floors when possible…men go where their friends go.
8) Convert rushee to a first name basis as soon as possible.
9) Make sure rushees meet other rushees in whom you are interested.
10) When possible, encourage your top rushees to suggest their friends as potential rushees.
11) Encourage each rushee to talk about himself. It is a simple way to find out all there is to know.
12) Don’t criticize other fraternities or sororities. Degrading comments
will come back to haunt you.
13) Recruitment is simply a process of making new friends. Treat each rushee as a potential friend.
14) Remember, it takes only a few seconds to make a good impression, but it takes years to correct a poor one!
The Member
1) Always use a firm handshake and concentrate on the sound of the Rushee’s name. Look the man in the eye.
2) Be enthusiastic at all times (enthusiasm is contagious).
3) Speak truthfully and be as frank as possible in all conversations.
4) Treat all guests equally.
5) Point out the accomplishments of the other brothers whenever you get the chance.
6) Recognize a rushee on campus by his first name.
7) Create a relaxed atmosphere and make a rushee feel he is one of the group and not just a guest. He will feel like he belongs.
8) Be proud of your school, your brothers, and Delta Kappa Epsilon.
9) Always be neat and well-groomed.
10) Be a good listener, don’t dominate the conversation.
11) Encourage every rushee to pledge regardless of the fraternity. If you openly rush the Greek System, rushees will be impressed and you will get your share of pledges.
